Corfu is famous for its beautiful coastline, with everything from dramatic rocky bays to long sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.

Staying in Corfu Town gives you the freedom to enjoy the island’s historic centre while still having easy access to some of its most beautiful beaches. Here are five of our favourite choices for a memorable beach day, together with a few local tips from Nostalgia Corfu Town Apartments.

1. Paleokastritsa – A Corfu Beach Icon

Paleokastritsa is one of Corfu’s most iconic coastal areas, famous for its turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs and beautiful small bays.

It is a great choice if you want more than just a swim, as you can combine your beach day with a boat trip to nearby sea caves, a visit to the monastery or a scenic drive through the surrounding hills.

Nostalgia Local Tip: If you have time, rent a small boat or take a local boat trip to explore the hidden coves around Paleokastritsa. The coastline is especially beautiful from the sea.

2. Glyfada – Golden Sand and Sunset Vibes

Glyfada is one of Corfu’s best-known sandy beaches, with a long stretch of golden sand, clear water and plenty of space to relax.

It is a great choice if you enjoy an organised beach day, as the area offers sunbeds, beach bars, water sports and several places for food and drinks. Glyfada is especially popular in the afternoon, when the light becomes softer and the beach atmosphere feels even more relaxed.

Nostalgia Local Tip: Arrive in the afternoon and stay until sunset. Glyfada is one of our favourite places to combine swimming, a drink by the sea and beautiful evening light.

3. Rovinia Beach – A Hidden Gem Surrounded by Nature

Rovinia Beach is one of Corfu’s most beautiful hidden gems, surrounded by steep green hills and impressive natural scenery.

The beach has clear turquoise waters and a more secluded atmosphere than many of the island’s larger organised beaches. Reaching it requires a short walk, which makes the experience feel even more special.

Nostalgia Local Tip: Wear comfortable shoes for the walk down and take water with you. Rovinia is a wonderful choice if you prefer a quieter beach surrounded by nature.

4. Issos Beach – Golden Sand and Wild Landscapes

Issos Beach is one of the most striking beaches in southern Corfu, known for its long stretch of golden sand, sand dunes and wild natural landscape.

Its open coastline and spacious setting make it ideal for travellers who enjoy long beach walks, swimming and a less enclosed beach environment. The surrounding scenery gives Issos a very different character from Corfu’s rocky northern bays.

Nostalgia Local Tip: Issos is perfect if you want plenty of space and a more natural beach experience. If you stay until late afternoon, the light over the dunes can be especially beautiful. Combine your beach visit with a walk in the nearby cedar forest.

5. Barbati Beach – Crystal-Clear Water and Mountain Views

Barbati Beach is a beautiful pebbled beach on the northeast coast of Corfu, known for its exceptionally clear water and impressive views towards Mount Pantokrator.

It is a great choice for swimming and snorkeling, especially if you enjoy transparent water and a more refined beach atmosphere. The beach is organised in several areas, with sunbeds, beach bars and places to eat nearby.

Nostalgia Local Tip: Bring water shoes if you have them, as the beach is pebbled. Barbati is especially enjoyable for a long, relaxed swim thanks to its clear and usually calm water.

Which Corfu Beach Should You Choose?

Each of these beaches offers a different side of Corfu.

Choose Paleokastritsa for dramatic scenery and boat trips, Glyfada for golden sand and sunset atmosphere, Rovinia for a quieter escape surrounded by nature, Issos for wide sandy landscapes and dunes, and Barbati for crystal-clear water and beautiful mountain views.

Whichever you choose, each beach offers a different reason to fall in love with Corfu’s coastline.

Explore Corfu from Nostalgia Corfu Town Apartments

Staying in Corfu Town gives you an excellent base for discovering different parts of the island while still enjoying the atmosphere, restaurants and historic streets of the Old Town.

At Nostalgia Corfu Town Apartments, we are always happy to share our local recommendations and help our guests choose beaches and experiences that best suit their plans.

Whether you prefer sandy beaches, hidden coves or crystal-clear waters, Corfu has something special waiting for you.

Staying in Corfu Town doesn’t mean giving up beach days. Several lovely swimming spots are within walking distance or a short ride from the town centre.

Whether you are looking for a quick morning swim, a relaxing afternoon by the sea or an easy beach day without renting a car, here are some of our favourite places to swim in and around Corfu Town — along with a few local tips from Nostalgia Corfu Town Apartments.

Anemomylos – A Quick Swim Close to Corfu Town

Anemomylos is one of the easiest places to enjoy a refreshing swim without leaving Corfu Town. Located along the beautiful Garitsa waterfront, near the historic windmill, it combines clear Ionian waters with lovely views towards the Old Fortress and the town.

Rather than a traditional sandy beach, Anemomylos is a local swimming spot with easy access to the sea, making it ideal for a quick dip before or after exploring Corfu Town.

Nostalgia Local Tip: We especially recommend Anemomylos for a morning swim or in the late afternoon, when you can combine your dip with a relaxing walk along Garitsa Bay.

Mon Repos – A Peaceful Swim Surrounded by Nature

Mon Repos is a lovely choice if you want to combine a swim with a peaceful walk through one of Corfu Town’s greenest areas. The surrounding estate is full of trees, shaded paths and beautiful views, creating a much more relaxed atmosphere than the busy town centre.

The swimming spots around Mon Repos are especially pleasant for travellers who enjoy nature and prefer a quieter setting. The sea is usually clear and refreshing, and the area is ideal for spending a few calm hours away from the crowds.

Nostalgia Local Tip: Combine your swim with a walk through the Mon Repos estate. It is a beautiful way to enjoy both the natural and historic side of Corfu in the same outing.

Faliraki – Swim with a View of the Old Fortress

Faliraki is one of the most atmospheric places to swim in Corfu Town. Located just below the Old Town, it offers beautiful views of the Old Fortress and the sea, making it a great choice if you want to combine sightseeing with a quick swim.

It is especially convenient for visitors who are already exploring the historic centre and want to cool off without travelling far. The setting is urban, scenic and very characteristic of Corfu Town.

Nostalgia Local Tip: Faliraki is a lovely choice in the late afternoon, especially if you want to continue your evening with a walk, dinner or drinks in the Old Town.

Old Fortress – A Unique Swim Beside Corfu’s History

Swimming near the Old Fortress is one of the most distinctive experiences you can have in Corfu Town. The historic setting, the views across the Ionian Sea and the impressive fortress walls make this spot feel completely different from a typical beach.

It is a great option if you are already exploring the Old Town and want to combine sightseeing with a refreshing swim. The area is more about atmosphere and location than a traditional beach experience.

Nostalgia Local Tip: Bring water shoes if you have them, and combine your swim with a visit to the Old Fortress for one of the most memorable half-days in Corfu Town.

Kanoni – Iconic Views and a Refreshing Swim

Kanoni is one of the most famous areas of Corfu, known for its spectacular views of Mouse Island, Vlacherna Monastery and the airport runway.

But Kanoni is not only about the view. Behind the Flisvos restaurant, on the right-hand side, you will find a small sandy and organised beach. Although it is located next to a hotel, the beach is open to the public and offers sunbeds, a beach bar and easy access to the sea.

It is a great choice if you want to combine swimming, relaxing by the beach and exploring one of Corfu’s most photographed locations.

Nostalgia Local Tip: Combine your swim with a walk to Vlacherna Monastery and enjoy a coffee or drink overlooking Mouse Island. Kanoni is especially beautiful in the late afternoon.

Vidos Island – A Peaceful Escape Just off Corfu Town

Vidos Island is a wonderful choice if you want to escape the busy streets of Corfu Town without travelling far. This small, green island lies just opposite Corfu Town and can be reached by a short boat ride departing from the Old Port of Corfu.

Vidos is known for its peaceful atmosphere, shaded paths and clear waters. It is ideal for visitors who want to combine a swim with a gentle walk in nature and enjoy a slower, more relaxed side of Corfu.

The island is not a typical organised beach destination, so it is better suited to travellers who enjoy simple swimming spots and natural surroundings.

Nostalgia Local Tip: The boat to Vidos departs from the Old Port of Corfu. Check the seasonal timetable before you go, and take water and comfortable shoes for your walk around the island.

Which Corfu Town Swimming Spot Should You Choose?

Each swimming spot around Corfu Town has its own character.

Choose Anemomylos for a quick and easy swim close to town, Mon Repos for a peaceful setting surrounded by greenery, Faliraki for atmosphere and Old Fortress views, the Old Fortress area for a unique combination of history and sea, Kanoni for an organised sandy beach with iconic scenery, and Vidos Island for a quiet half-day escape in nature.

The best choice depends on how much time you have, whether you prefer an organised beach or a simple swimming spot, and how far you want to travel.

As spring breathes new life into Corfu, the island transforms into a colourful landscape filled with wildflowers, lush greenery and the scents of nature. Mild temperatures, quieter roads and fewer crowds make this one of the most beautiful times of the year to discover the island.

From historic landmarks and picturesque villages to hiking trails, traditional food and unique Easter celebrations, spring reveals a different and more authentic side of Corfu.

Here are 10 things to do in Corfu in spring and some of our favourite local tips along the way.

1. Explore Corfu Town and Discover Its Secret CornersTown and relailing it’s secret spots.

Begin your journey in the heart of the island: Corfu Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Walk along the elegant Liston Promenade, cross the impressive Spianada Square and lose yourself in the narrow streets of Campiello. Spring is perfect for exploring the Old Town on foot, when flowers appear on balconies and the warmer days invite you to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere.

Look beyond the main streets and wander through the small alleys, known locally as kantounia. Here you will discover hidden squares, colourful buildings, tiny churches and everyday scenes of Corfiot life.

Tip No. 1: Stop for a coffee at one of the little cafés hidden among the kantounia. Sometimes the best way to experience Corfu is simply to sit, observe and enjoy the rhythm of the town.

2. Discover the Beauty of Achilleion Palace

A short drive from Corfu Town takes you to Achilleion Palace, one of the island’s most famous historical landmarks.

The palace was built for Empress Elisabeth of Austria, widely known as Sisi, who found inspiration and tranquillity in Corfu. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and sculptures inspired by Greek mythology, Achilleion combines history, art and impressive views of the surrounding landscape.

Spring adds another dimension to the experience, as the gardens and countryside surrounding the palace are at their greenest.

Tip No. 2: Don’t rush your visit. Take some time to walk through the gardens and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

3. Visit Kanoni, Vlacherna Monastery and Mouse Island

Few views are more closely associated with Corfu than the famous panorama from Kanoni.

From here you can admire the tiny Vlacherna Monastery, connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway, with the green island of Pontikonisi – Mouse Island – just behind it.

Small boats operate from the area and can take visitors across to Pontikonisi, where a tiny historic church stands among the cypress trees.

According to local mythology, Pontikonisi is linked to the ship of the Phaeacians that carried Odysseus back to Ithaca before being turned to stone by Poseidon.

Tip No. 3: Stay for a while rather than just taking the classic photograph. Watching the planes approach Corfu Airport just above the lagoon is another unforgettable part of the Kanoni experience.

4. Explore Paleokastritsa, Its Monastery and Beaches

Paleokastritsa is beautiful at any time of year, but spring gives this famous part of Corfu a particularly fresh and peaceful character.

Visit the monastery perched high above the sea and enjoy magnificent views over the coastline and the deep blue Ionian Sea. Afterwards, explore the small bays and beaches that make Paleokastritsa one of Corfu’s most recognisable landscapes.

The sea may still be refreshing in early spring, but sunny days often make it impossible to resist.

Tip No. 4: From the small port of Alipa, you can take a boat trip along the coastline to discover sea caves and secluded coves accessible mainly from the water. The shades of turquoise around Paleokastritsa are simply spectacular.

5. Corfu Archaeological Museum

For a journey into the island’s ancient past, visit the Archaeological Museum of Corfu.

Its collection includes important archaeological finds from different periods of Corfu’s history. One of its most celebrated exhibits is the monumental Gorgon Pediment from the Temple of Artemis, one of the great archaeological treasures of the island.

A museum visit is also an excellent choice for a cooler or rainy spring morning before continuing your exploration outdoors.

Tip No. 5: Give yourself enough time for the Gorgon Pediment. Seeing it in person gives you a completely different sense of its scale and importance.

6. Hike on Mount Pantokrator

Spring is perhaps the best season for discovering Corfu on foot.

For those who love nature and walking, Mount Pantokrator, the highest mountain on the island, offers spectacular views and numerous routes through the beautiful countryside of northern Corfu.

During spring, wildflowers cover the landscape while the temperatures remain comfortable for hiking. Traditional villages scattered around the mountain add another reason to explore the area slowly rather than simply driving to the summit.

Tip No. 6: Stop at one of the small village tavernas you encounter along the way. Many serve traditional dishes prepared with local ingredients and recipes passed down through generations.

For us, discovering these small places is as much a part of exploring Corfu as visiting the famous sights.

7. Taste Authentic Corfiot Cuisine

Spring is a wonderful season to discover Corfiot cuisine.

Traditional tavernas serve dishes inspired by the island’s unique culinary history, while seasonal produce brings fresh flavours to the table.

Look for Corfiot classics such as pastitsada, sofrito and bourdeto, but also ask about the dishes of the day. Some of the most memorable meals are often the simplest ones, especially in small family-run tavernas.

Whether you choose a restaurant in Corfu Town or stop somewhere in the countryside, food is one of the best ways to understand the island.

Tip No. 7: Don’t always choose from the menu immediately. Ask what has been cooked especially for the day — you may discover something you would never have ordered otherwise.

8. Experience Easter in Corfu

If your spring visit coincides with Orthodox Easter, you are about to experience one of Corfu’s most extraordinary traditions.

Easter in Corfu is famous throughout Greece and attracts visitors from around the world. During Holy Week, religious ceremonies, philharmonic bands, processions and centuries-old local customs fill the streets of Corfu Town and villages across the island.

One of the most famous moments takes place on Holy Saturday, when the Botides, large clay pots filled with water, are thrown from balconies in Corfu Town during the First Resurrection.

But Corfiot Easter is much more than the Botides. The processions, music, traditions and atmosphere throughout Holy Week create an experience unlike anywhere else in Greece.

Tip No. 8: If Easter is the main reason for your visit, arrive a few days before Holy Saturday. Some of the most moving traditions take place throughout Holy Week, not only during the famous Saturday celebrations.

9. Take a boat trips to Paxos and Antipaxos

Spring is also a beautiful time to explore the Ionian Sea.

A day trip to Paxos and Antipaxos offers dramatic coastlines, sea caves, picturesque villages and extraordinarily clear water.

Paxos has its own relaxed island atmosphere, while tiny Antipaxos is famous for beaches where the sea takes on almost unbelievable shades of blue and turquoise.

Boat excursions become increasingly available as the tourist season begins, although schedules may vary during the earlier weeks of spring.

Tip No. 9: If your excursion includes Antipaxos, don’t miss it. The smaller island may be tiny, but its scenery and crystal-clear waters make it one of the highlights of the trip.

10. Enjoy Corfu’s Gardens in Full Bloom

Spring is when Corfu truly deserves its reputation as one of Greece’s greenest islands.

In Corfu Town, take a peaceful walk through the Garden of the People, beside the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, or continue towards the Boschetto Garden, overlooking the Old Fortress and the sea.

Away from the town, olive groves, cypress trees, wildflowers and flowering gardens transform the island into a landscape of green, yellow, purple and white.

Tip No. 10: Don’t always plan every minute of the day. Spring in Corfu rewards wandering. Take a path you haven’t noticed before, stop somewhere unexpected and simply enjoy the landscape.

Why Visit Corfu in Spring?

Corfu combines history, nature, culture and tradition throughout the year, but spring has a character of its own.

The island is greener, temperatures are pleasant for walking and sightseeing, and many places can be enjoyed without the intensity of the summer crowds.

It is a season for road trips through the countryside, long walks through Corfu Town, leisurely meals in village tavernas and spontaneous stops wherever the landscape catches your eye.

And if your visit coincides with Easter, you will also experience one of the island’s most important and unforgettable cultural celebrations.

Corfu in spring is not simply a quieter version of summer.

It is a completely different way to experience the island.

Looking for a Place to Stay While Exploring Corfu?

The southern coast of Corfu is home to some of the island’s most beautiful and diverse beaches. From long stretches of golden sand and impressive dunes to crystal-clear waters and peaceful seaside spots, the south offers something for every kind of traveller.

Whether you are looking for a lively beach with plenty of facilities, a quiet place to relax, or a wild natural landscape away from the crowds, the southern beaches of Corfu are well worth exploring.

Here are some of our favourite beaches in the south of the island, each with its own unique character.

Kavos Beach

Located at the southernmost tip of Corfu, Kavos Beach is one of the island’s liveliest seaside destinations. Its long sandy coastline is lined with beach bars, restaurants and water sports, creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the summer.

Kavos is especially popular with younger visitors and those looking for entertainment, nightlife and a more energetic beach experience. During the day, however, you can still enjoy the sun, the sea and a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

Keep in mind that Kavos is approximately 40 km from Corfu Town, so it is worth planning your return journey in advance.

Agios Gordios (South)

Agios Gordios in southern Corfu is a peaceful beach with clear waters and a more relaxed atmosphere, ideal for visitors who prefer quieter seaside escapes.

Surrounded by natural scenery, it is a lovely place to swim, unwind and enjoy the beauty of the Ionian Sea away from the island’s busier resorts. Its calm character makes it a good choice for a slow and relaxing beach day.

Issos Beach

Issos Beach is one of the most impressive beaches in southern Corfu, known for its endless golden sand, crystal-clear waters and striking sand dunes.

Located next to Lake Korission, the beach is surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape that feels wild and unspoilt. Its wide shoreline offers plenty of space to relax, while the steady sea breeze also makes Issos popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing.

It is an excellent choice for anyone looking to combine swimming, nature and a sense of freedom away from more crowded seaside resorts.

Santa Barbara Beach

Santa Barbara is a beautiful sandy beach on the southwest coast of Corfu, known for its clear waters, soft golden sand and relaxed atmosphere.

The beach is well organised, with sunbeds, umbrellas and seaside tavernas nearby, making it a comfortable choice for a full day by the sea. At the same time, its long coastline leaves plenty of room for those who prefer a quieter spot.

It is a lovely option for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying a laid-back summer day in southern Corfu.

Prasoudi Beach

Prasoudi is a small and peaceful beach on the southwest coast of Corfu, surrounded by lush greenery and a beautiful natural landscape.

Its clear waters and relaxed atmosphere make it ideal for visitors looking to escape the busier beaches and enjoy a quieter day by the sea. The beach has a more intimate feel, while nearby tavernas offer the chance to combine swimming with a leisurely meal overlooking the coast.

Prasoudi is a lovely choice for couples and travellers who appreciate calm surroundings, natural beauty and a slower pace.

Halikounas Beach

Halikounas is one of the wildest and most unspoilt beaches in southern Corfu, stretching along a narrow strip of land between the Ionian Sea and Lake Korission.

Its long sandy shoreline, open landscape and steady winds create a unique sense of space and freedom. The beach is especially popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers, while its natural setting makes it equally appealing to visitors who simply want to swim, walk along the coast and enjoy the scenery.

With fewer organised facilities than many other beaches, Halikounas is an excellent choice for those who prefer a more natural and peaceful seaside experience.

Marathias Beach
